Ukraine has launched a drone attack on Moscow, with over two dozen drones shot down in the Russian capital. The attack comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested fresh ceasefire talks with Russia this week. According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, 132 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight and into Sunday afternoon, with at least nine regions affected.
The latest attack prompted restrictions at all four of Moscow’s international airports, diverting at least 134 aircraft to alternate airports. Zelenskyy had proposed new talks to be held this week, as both sides continue work on a prisoner exchange agreement reached in Istanbul, Turkey.
Zelenskyy stated that the pace of negotiations must be increased and that Russia must stop hiding from decisions. He also mentioned that Ukraine is ready for a meeting at the level of leaders to ensure peace. The Ukrainian air force reported 57 Russian drones launched into the country overnight, with 25 drones downed or suppressed.
The drone attacks have been a recurring issue in the conflict, with both sides expanding long-range drone strikes amid stalled ceasefire talks. Zelenskyy’s call for fresh talks comes as the war enters its fifth month, with continued pressure from President Donald Trump’s administration.
