Noah Fant, the tight end acquired in the Russell Wilson trade, has seen a mixed bag of results with the Seattle Seahawks. Despite his first-round draft status by the Denver Broncos, he has struggled to deliver on expectations. Over three seasons with the team, Fant has amassed 130 receptions, 1,400 yards, and only five touchdowns.
Fant’s production has been particularly underwhelming in 2024, with a mere one touchdown in the final game of the year. His reception numbers were relatively low, and his receiving yards per reception (YPR) ranking among tight ends was a dismal 31st lowest. His Pro Football Focus (PFF) grades indicate that he struggles with blocking, ranking sixth-worst among qualified tight ends.
However, Fant has shown some promising aspects in his performance. He demonstrated excellent route-selling skills and YAC (yards after catch) capabilities, making him a threat on the field. Despite this, his inability to score touchdowns and excel in red-zone situations remains a concern.
The Seahawks’ coaching staff, led by Klint Kubiak, seems to favor Fant’s strengths as a long-route receiver but struggles with his blocking abilities. Given this mismatch, it’s uncertain whether Fant will remain on the roster or face a contract extension. A potential redesign of his contract could be a viable solution for both parties.
Fant’s situation is at the center of the Seahawks’ salary cap dilemma at the tight end position. While he has shown fight and flashes of brilliance, his overall production hasn’t justified his contract value. As the season progresses, Fant may prove to be less of a fit for Kubiak’s offense, leaving room for younger players with potential to shine.
