Disney’s Moana 2 has achieved another impressive milestone, reaching $600 million globally following its record-breaking opening bow. The movie’s domestic and international splits are even, with $300M from each region. Its overseas frame earned $103.7M in 52 markets, representing a 41% drop.
Moana 2 has become the No. 5 movie of 2024 worldwide, surpassing the entire run of its predecessor at current rates. The sequel now charts among the top performers globally, alongside Disney’s other popular franchises.
In contrast, Paramount and Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II delivered $17M from 65 offshore markets (-39%) for a running overseas cume of $235.7M. The global total is now at $368.4M.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. began rolling out its animated film “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” in various countries. Its early launch earned $2M internationally across 31 markets.
On a separate note, some online commenters have expressed skepticism about Wicked’s box office performance, citing its reportedly high marketing costs and declining international sales. However, it is essential to consider that these figures include post-theatrical revenue, such as streaming and VOD earnings. The film still has the potential for profitability.
As of now, Wicked remains a major performer globally, with some estimates suggesting it may have reached $455 million worldwide.
