Massachusetts could face significant job losses and wage reductions as the Trump administration phases out incentives for clean energy technologies. According to a recent report, the federal government’s rollback on wind, solar, and other renewable energy funding could result in 30,000 lost jobs and over $3 billion in lost wages by the end of the decade.
The changes are part of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” signed into law on July 4, which will gradually eliminate tax credits for clean energy projects. The bill specifically targets a 30% tax credit under the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, set to expire over the next few years.
This move is the latest in a series of cuts to clean energy programs, with hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of initiatives already being dismantled by the Trump administration. Recently, President Trump signed an executive order that could retroactively disqualify eligible clean energy projects from receiving tax credits – a move likely to be challenged in federal court.
