Google Maps Android Auto Bug Frustrates Users for Months

Google Maps users on Android Auto are experiencing frustration due to a bug that has prevented the application from offering alternate routes since May. The issue persists despite numerous user reports and attempts to seek help through Google’s forums, with the search giant showing little interest in fixing it.

The problem is consistent across all cases, where Google Maps suggests a single route and sticks to it throughout the journey, failing to provide faster alternatives that avoid traffic slowdowns. This has made navigation difficult for users, who claim they have no choice but to switch to alternative apps like Waze or Apple Maps until the bug is fixed.

The issue is not unique to Android Auto; similar problems have been reported in CarPlay and iPhone users, where Google Maps fails to generate new routes when taking different turns. Despite this being a recurring problem for at least four weeks, Google has yet to release an update or fix the issue.

For many users, switching to another app is the only solution, but Apple’s efforts to improve Apple Maps have not yet caught up with Google’s functionality. This lack of support from Google raises questions about the company’s commitment to maintaining its Android Auto application and ensuring a smooth user experience.
