Korea Aims to Establish Lunar Base by 2045

South Korea plans to send humans to the lunar surface by 2045 as part of its ambitious space exploration program. The Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) has outlined a five-year roadmap, which includes missions for low-Earth orbit and microgravity exploration, lunar exploration, and solar and space science studies.

The country’s long-term goal is to develop independent landing and mobility technologies on the moon, utilize lunar resources, and construct infrastructure for economic activities. By 2040, KASA aims to launch a next-generation lunar lander for logistics and supply missions.

One of the key components of the roadmap is the development of probes to monitor solar activity and enhance space safety. The agency also plans to deploy a solar observation satellite to the Lagrange point L4 by 2035, a region where the gravitational forces of the sun and Earth are balanced.

This lunar base will serve as an economic hub, allowing for future human settlements and resource utilization on the moon. With its ambitious program, South Korea is poised to become a major player in the global space exploration community.
