Two Israeli citizens were detained by Belgian police for questioning over suspected war crimes in Gaza, according to human rights group Hind Rajab Foundation. The two Israelis were released after the authorities found no evidence of wrongdoing.
The incident occurred during a visit to the Tomorrowland festival in Belgium, where the pair attended without any security checks. A joint complaint filed by the Hind Rajab Foundation and GLAN LAW prompted Belgian police to investigate the suspects.
This is not the first time Israeli forces have been accused of war crimes in Gaza. In recent months, there have been reports of Israeli soldiers shooting at Palestinians holding white flags near aid distribution sites. The Israeli military has denied any wrongdoing, stating that troops are taught to fire in the air or shoot at Palestinians’ knees.
Meanwhile, the United Nations agency for Migration (IOM) has reported that Palestinians in Gaza are facing “repeated displacement” amid forced displacement orders and ongoing bombardment. Families have been forced to return to their homes despite being flattened by intense attacks.
The Israeli government has come under pressure to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa has called for international action to halt what he described as “654 days of aggression” against Palestinians in Gaza.
In recent days, there have been reports of an increase in starvation deaths and Israeli army attacks in Gaza. The World Food Programme has reported that Palestinians are not eating for days, facing soaring malnutrition levels.
