Apple has released a new update to its iOS operating system, iOS 18.2, which includes several major features and apps. One of the most exciting updates is the introduction of Image Playground, a new app that uses AI to generate “fun, playful images” based on text descriptions, people in your Photos library, and more.
Image Playground allows users to create custom images in seconds, choosing from three styles: Animation, Illustration, or Sketch. The app is easy to use and is built into multiple other apps, including Messages and Keynote. Users can choose an image from their Photos library as a starting point, customize it with text descriptions, and experiment with different themes and accessories.
The generated images are not photorealistic, but rather stylized and creative. Users can swipe through multiple previews to pick the one they like best. Image Playground is available on all devices capable of running iOS 18, but Apple Intelligence features, including this app, are only compatible with iPhone 15 Pro and higher models.
With the release of iOS 18.2, users will be able to access Image Playground as a standalone app or through integration with other apps. The app’s API is also available for third-party developers to integrate it into their own apps.
