Lions Training Camp Opens with New Faces and Uncertainty

The Detroit Lions’ 2025 training camp has begun, marking a new chapter for the team as they look to build on last season’s success. With several key coaches and players departing, the road ahead is uncertain. However, head coach Dan Campbell remains focused on winning the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy.

The Lions have lost coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, who both left for head coaching jobs in Chicago and New York Jets, respectively. They have been replaced by John Morton, a familiar face from their senior offensive assistant role in 2022, and Kelvin Sheppard, a former linebackers coach who enters his fifth season with the organization.

Several players are expected to take center stage this year, including Pro Bowl edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson, who returned from a leg injury that cut short last season. Cornerback Terrion Arnold is also being watched closely after a promising rookie season and quarterback Jared Goff, who faces criticism for his team’s early playoff exit.

The Lions will also be looking to replace center Frank Ragnow, who announced his retirement this offseason, with options including Tate Ratledge, Graham Glasgow, Miles Frazier, and Kingsley Eguakun. Coach Campbell has expressed respect for rookie center Kingsley Eguakun, who is in line to take on the role.

Tashard Choice, a new running backs coach, has quickly drawn rave reviews after coaching Jahmyr Gibbs at Georgia Tech and helping Bijan Robinson succeed with the Atlanta Falcons. The Lions’ offense will be closely watched as they look to improve this season.

The 53-man roster projection has been released, featuring Jared Goff, Kyle Allen, Hendon Hooker, and several other players who are expected to take on key roles. With a new coaching staff and players, the Lions are entering uncharted territory, but Campbell’s focus remains on winning the franchise’s first championship.
