Amazon has issued a warning to customers about an increasing number of impersonation scams that could compromise sensitive personal data. Scammers pretend to be company representatives, reaching out to gain access to information such as social security numbers or bank details.
These scams often claim to involve issues with orders or account activity, and may include unsolicited calls claiming a customer purchased something they didn’t buy. To avoid falling victim, Amazon recommends verifying purchases on the official website or app, trusting only authentic messages, and being cautious of urgent requests.
Amazon has also shared six tips to stay safe from impersonation scams: checking for genuine messages, avoiding pressure to buy gift cards, contacting Amazon directly, and reporting suspicious correspondence. Customers can use the Amazon self-service tool to report suspicious activity in just a few steps, or email [email protected] if they are not a customer.
