Israel Allows Foreign Aid Drops in Gaza Starting Friday

Israel has agreed to allow foreign countries to parachute aid into the Gaza Strip, starting on Friday, according to Israeli army radio. This move comes as the territory faces severe food and water shortages due to an ongoing blockade.

The blockade, which began in March, has resulted in over 100 deaths from starvation, according to the Gaza health ministry. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reported that it treated 5,000 children with acute malnutrition in Gaza during the first two weeks of July.

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Wednesday that Gaza was suffering from “man-made mass starvation” caused by the blockade. The Israeli government had previously restricted aid supplies to prevent them from being diverted to militant groups.

Despite lifting its military blockade in May, Israel has maintained restrictions on aid deliveries. However, this new arrangement allows for foreign countries to drop aid into Gaza, marking a significant shift in the country’s policy.
