SpaceX is set to launch its latest crewed mission to the International Space Station (ISS) on July 31. The four-person Crew-11 mission, consisting of astronauts Zena Cardman from NASA and Oleg Platonov from Russia’s Roscosmos, as well as Kimiya Yui from Japan’s JAXA, and Mike Fincke from NASA, will lift off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
This will be SpaceX’s sixth Crew Dragon launch to space, with the Endeavour spacecraft carrying its crew on a six-month stay at the ISS. The mission marks the first time that Platonov and Cardman have flown together, while Yui is set to return to space for his second ISS visit.
Fincke, who has spent over a year in orbit and conducted nine spacewalks, will serve as commander on this flight. He has previously trained to fly on Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft but will not be doing so this time.
The Crew-11 astronauts will join the existing crew at the ISS, replacing the current residents after a six-month stay. The launch is targeted for 3 a.m. ET (0800 GMT) on August 2, with docking expected to take place shortly afterwards.
During their stay, the Crew-11 astronauts will conduct scientific experiments and routine space station operations, contributing to ongoing research and exploration efforts at the ISS.
