Raiders Release Christian Wilkins Over Contract Dispute

The Las Vegas Raiders released defensive tackle Christian Wilkins on Friday, citing a dispute over his recovery from a broken foot as the reason for their decision. Coach Pete Carroll stated that the team took its time making the decision and was seeking clarity on Wilkins’ return to play, which he felt was not possible. With $35.25 million still guaranteed in Wilkins’ contract, the Raiders are attempting to void the remaining amount.

Wilkins, a key free-agent signing last season, had been injured since Week 5 of the previous year and struggled with setbacks during his recovery. The team has now turned to Adam Butler and Jonah Laulu to fill the vacant defensive tackle spot, both of whom have experience starting games in the past. Carroll emphasized that competition is high in the Raiders’ system, and the team is committed to giving all players a chance to contribute.
