Google has launched a new search labs experiment called Web Guide, which uses AI to organize search results into helpful categories with added context and insights. The feature, available from the Web tab within Google Search, groups web links based on specific aspects of your query.
Web Guide uses a custom version of Gemini to better understand both search queries and web content, creating more powerful search capabilities. It also employs a query fan-out technique, issuing multiple related searches to identify the most relevant results.
The feature is designed for open-ended searches like “how to solo travel in Japan” or detailed queries with multiple sentences. Google allows users to opt-in and switch back to standard results at any time.
Web Guide differs from previous AI-organized search results, which were launched last October but required no opt-in. This new experiment targets all types of content, not just recipes and meal prep. It aims to surface more unique and helpful content.
As a Labs experiment, Web Guide will be rolled out gradually, with plans to expand its use across other Search features in the future. Users can try it now from the Web tab on Search.
