Halo Infinite to Be Retired from HCS Competition After October’s Championships

Halo esports fans are in a state of uncertainty after Microsoft announced that Halo Infinite will be retired from the official competitive scene by next year. The decision was made public through a statement on the Halo Waypoint blog, confirming that the game will no longer host tournaments under the Halo Championship Series (HCS) banner.

The announcement comes as the HCS prepares for the upcoming October World Championships and two planned Majors. According to Tahir ‘Tashi’ Hasandjekic, Director of Competitive Engagement at Halo Studios, retiring Halo Infinite from official competition is a strategic move that aligns with the studio’s focus on the next era of Halo esports.

While fans are concerned about the sudden change, the HCS has reassured that it will continue to support Halo Infinite tournaments in 2026. However, this does not guarantee that other titles like Halo 5 and MCC will receive similar treatment, sparking speculation among fans about the future of the franchise’s competitive scene.

The 4th year of Halo esports using Halo Infinite as its title has been extended for a final time, showcasing the growing competition level and dedication from players. Despite this, the HCS is now shifting its focus to other aspects of the franchise, leaving many wondering if the next game will be ready to take center stage.

Halo fans can expect tournaments to still surface for Halo Infinite in the future, but it remains unclear when or which title will be used as the foundation for the revamped competitive scene.
