Arsenal Sign Viktor Gyökeres for €63 Million

Arsenal has completed the signing of highly sought-after striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP for a deal worth €63 million plus €10m in add-ons, the club announced on Saturday. The 27-year-old Hungarian international has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League side.

Gyökeres’ transfer was a long time coming, with Arsenal and Sporting locked in negotiations for several months due to disagreements over performance-related add-ons. However, the delay appears to have been worth it, as Gyökeres brings a wealth of experience and goalscoring ability to the club.

The Sweden international has a glowing reputation, having scored 54 goals last season in all competitions for Sporting CP. He also enjoyed spells in English football at Swansea City and Brighton & Hove Albion before joining Coventry City in 2023.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta welcomed Gyökeres to the club, praising his consistency, power, and clinical edge in front of goal. The Swedish striker joins a team that was hamstrung by injuries last season, and his arrival will provide much-needed firepower going into the new campaign.

“We’re delighted to welcome Viktor to our squad,” Arteta said. “We believe he has the qualities we need to compete at the highest level.”
