With less than a week until the trade deadline, several teams are wheeling and dealing to strengthen their lineups. Here are five potential deals that could make a difference in the final stretch of the season.
The Mariners kicked off the week by acquiring big bat Josh Naylor from the Diamondbacks for two prospects. But what’s next? We’ve got our eyes on these five trades that could help teams make a push for the playoffs.
First up, we’ve got a potential three-way swap between the Red Sox, Marlins, and Padres. The Sox would gain a legitimate starter in Edward Cabrera, who has a 3.48 ERA over 17 starts this season. The Padres would get a difference-maker bat with Jarren Duran, who’s under team control through 2028. Meanwhile, the Marlins would snag their long-term answer at catcher with Ethan Salas.
Next, we’ve got a deal that could give the Cubs the much-needed starting pitcher they’ve been searching for all season. Justin Steele’s elbow surgery left them in desperate need of a starter, and Mitch Keller could be just what the doctor ordered. Keller has a 3.53 ERA over 21 starts this season and is under team control through 2028.
The Yankees are also looking to bolster their lineup with All-Star Maikel Garcia from the Royals. Garcia’s impressive stats include .291/.345/.440 with 26 doubles, eight home runs, and 19 stolen bases. In return, the Royals would get outfield prospect Jasson Domínguez, who’s under team control through 2030.
The Dodgers are looking to improve their bullpen with two top relievers from the Twins. Griffin Jax has a 4.09 ERA over 44 innings this season, while Jhoan Duran has a 1.94 ERA over 46 appearances. In return, the Twins would get outfielder Josue De Paula and pitcher Bobby Miller.
Finally, we’ve got a deal that could give the Reds the power hitter they need to make a playoff push. Eugenio Suárez is looking like the biggest bat traded at the deadline, with 36 home runs and 86 RBIs this season. In return, the Diamondbacks would get top pitching prospect Chase Petty.
These are just a few of the deals that could be made in the final week before the trade deadline. Which ones do you think will happen?
