China has released a global action plan for artificial intelligence, calling for international cooperation on tech development and regulation. The plan proposes the establishment of a global AI cooperation organization, aimed at promoting multilateral collaboration in the field.
The move comes as the world’s two largest economies intensify their tech rivalry. US President Donald Trump recently announced an American action plan for AI, which includes calls to reduce bias in AI models and support deployment overseas.
China’s “AI plus” plan focuses on integrating the technology across industries, with a goal of sharing its expertise with less developed economies. The country has been developing homegrown alternatives to restrict US access to advanced semiconductors used in training AI models.
Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt met with Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining ahead of the AI conference, as part of efforts to strengthen China’s tech presence. The move marks a significant escalation in the global AI race, with two rival camps emerging: one led by China and the other by the US.
