Gaza Crisis Deepens as Starvation Claims Hundreds of Lives

At least 57 people were killed in Gaza over the past 24 hours, with many killed while waiting for aid or caught in Israeli airstrikes. Ceasefire talks appear to have stalled amid a worsening starvation crisis. Humanitarians blame Israel’s blockade on the territory for the mass suffering.

In the past two months, more than 1,000 people have been killed trying to receive aid. The Palestinian news agency reported that at least 124 people died from starvation in Gaza, with 84 of them children. An infant died from malnutrition on Saturday morning, making it the third baby to die in 24 hours due to hunger.

Israeli strikes have also caused more deaths across the Gaza Strip, including four people in an apartment building in Gaza City. Ceasefire talks have stalled after the US and Israel withdrew their negotiating teams from Doha, with the US blaming Hamas for the collapse.

Hamas officials deny blame and say the withdrawal is a negotiating tactic. Egypt and Qatar are mediating the talks, suggesting they could resume soon. World Food Programme warned that over 90,000 women and children in Gaza need urgent treatment for malnutrition, with one-third of people going without food for days.

The situation has sparked outrage globally, with Jordan promising to conduct airdropped aid shipments and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer working to get British aid into Gaza. However, critics argue that airdrops are not a solution to the crisis, which is deeply entrenched by Israel’s blockade.
