The Minnesota Vikings have retained safety Joshua Metellus with a three-year deal, keeping him in purple through the 2028 season. The hybrid dynamo has become an integral part of the team’s defense, lining up at seven different positions in one game last season.
“We talked about this when he first got on the team,” Metellus said. “He told me what he was chasing, and I took him under my wing. For him to still be here with me is special.”
General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah praised Metellus for his relentless work ethic and commitment to the community. “Josh embodies the relentlessness and work ethic that we value in this team. His story is a story of undeniable determination.”
Metellus, who has totaled over 2,000 defensive snaps in two seasons with Brian Flores as Minnesota’s defensive coordinator, can play man-to-man coverage at all five spots on the field. He was one of five players in the NFL that season with at least four forced fumbles, 2.0 sacks, and an interception.
The deal is a testament to Metellus’ value to the team, both on and off the field. “It means a lot for me to have people backing me,” he said. “That’s a big reason why I am where I am today.”
Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell praised Metellus’ leadership and work ethic, saying that his journey is an inspiration to the team.
