Oakland Athletics rookie Nick Kurtz made history on Friday night by becoming the first MLB player to hit four home runs in a single game. The 22-year-old’s impressive performance led his team to a 15-3 win over the Houston Astros.
Kurtz’s historic game saw him rack up 19 total bases, tying the major league record set by Shawn Green in 2002. He went six-for-six, hitting home runs off each of the Astros pitchers in the second, sixth, eighth, and ninth innings. Additionally, he hit a single in the first inning and a double in the fourth inning.
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay described Kurtz’s game as “arguably the best I’ve ever watched from a single player.” The young rookie has already broken records, becoming the 20th player in major league history to hit four home runs in a single game. He did so in just his 66th appearance, making him the youngest player to achieve this feat.
Kurtz’s impressive performance has also been marked by his rapid rise up the rankings. As a fourth-round draft pick in 2024, he has become one of the league’s top hitters, with 23 home runs and a 12-game hitting streak. His parents and godparents watched from the stands at Daikin Park, making it a memorable night for Kurtz.
