A brutally hot day at Ravens Training Camp on Friday did little to deter the team from putting in a good day’s work. Despite the sweltering temperatures, quarterback coach had the right attitude – “the heat is good for us. Really good.”
The top three receivers, Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, and DeAndre Hopkins, were among those who made an appearance at the side closest to the field house, working on their initial release at the line. Meanwhile, the EDGE units focused on getting leverage and full extension of their arms as they exploded through their stances.
The secondary, however, was probably the strongest personnel unit of the day. Nate Wiggins had a standout practice, seeming looser and more confident in coverage than he did last year. The unit communicated well and made several big plays, including a gang tackle for a loss on a toss play.
Kyle Hamilton credited regular communication with his unit’s success, saying it was due to their offseason work during the spring and summer. Jaire Alexander also played a key role, showing eagerness to engage with the rest of the DBs as soon as he arrived.
While it was harder to evaluate the offense, there were some positive signs – DeAndre Hopkins made several nice catches, including one where he dove low to scoop up an underthrown pass. Tyler Loop impressed on special teams, going flawless on a 68-yard field goal attempt.
The Ravens head to DC on August 23rd for their final exhibition game before the regular season begins, and fans can look forward to a pre-game event that includes steamed crabs, beer, and more.
