English star Lottie Woad won the Women’s Scottish Open with a three-shot victory on Sunday, marking her professional debut win. Woad closed with a 4-under 68 and finished at 21-under 267 for $300,000.
Woad never flinched as Hyo Joo Kim made a charge on a windy day at Dundonald Links, maintaining the lead down the stretch. The English star made birdies on the 13th and 14th holes to regain control and dropped only one shot late in her round.
Woad’s victory is a significant moment for women’s golf, as she was previously untested at this level. The 21-year-old English star won the Women’s Irish Open three weeks ago and finished one shot out of a playoff in the Evian Championship.
Nelly Korda, who played with Woad for three rounds, struggled to regain her momentum after four straight birdies on the front nine. She shot 71 and finished eight shots behind. Julia Lopez Ramirez closed with a 65 and tied for third, earning one of three spots available in the Women’s British Open.
Woad credits her experience from winning the Augusta National Women’s Amateur last year as helping her prepare for this win. “I think those experiences helped me with this,” she said. The LPGA Tour now has had a different winner in all 19 tournaments this year, marking the longest stretch of no multiple winners in its 75-year history.
