Bangladesh Air Force Jet Crashes, Kills 31 Children and Injures Many Others

A Bangladesh Air Force jet crashed into a school in Dhaka on Monday, killing at least 31 people, including 25 children, and injuring 165 others. The incident has left the nation of 171 million people in shock and mourning.

The plane, an F-7 BGI, was on a routine training mission when it suffered a mid-air mechanical fault and crashed into the Milestone School and College. The building was engulfed in flames and smoke, with many students finishing their afternoon classes just before the crash.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as “horrible” and “like a death trap,” with many children trapped inside the burning building. Mohammad Imran Hussein, a lecturer at the school, said he saw scattered parts of different bodies and was unable to express everything in words.

The government has denied withholding information about the casualties of the crash, but witnesses claim that the death toll may be higher than officially released. Family members of some victims have spoken out, sharing their grief and shock at losing loved ones.

Nine-year-old Zunayet Hasan was one of the many children killed in the crash. His family found his older brother safe but could not locate him until they saw his ID card on Facebook. The boy’s father described his son as wise beyond his years and said he would never return again.

Bangladesh’s interim government leader Muhammad Yunus has expressed shock and grief at the incident, saying that “we had to suddenly accept this unbelievable reality.” He called for answers from the authorities but acknowledged that there are none at present.
