A total solar eclipse swept across North America from Mexico to northeastern Canada on April 8, 2024. To better understand how our planet is affected by the sun, NASA supported various research projects and enlisted citizen scientists. Recent findings from a few of these experiments were announced at the American Geophysical Union meeting in Washington, D.C.
According to Kelly Korreck, eclipse program manager at NASA, tens of thousands of volunteers observed the eclipse across the moon’s shadow, contributing to the Heliophysics Big Year project. These efforts aimed to investigate how the sun interacts with Earth’s atmosphere and affects radio communications.
