UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has presented a European-led peace plan for Gaza to US President Donald Trump, during a meeting in Scotland. The proposal comes after talks between the UK, France, and Germany on delivering immediate relief to those in need.
Starmer’s spokesman said the plans build on collaboration between the three countries and aim to set out a pathway to peace and a sustainable route to a two-state solution. However, Trump suggested getting aid into Gaza is his priority before discussing future peace plans.
The move comes amid renewed pressure on Starmer to recognize Palestinian statehood, with 255 MPs signing a letter calling for the government to do so immediately. The UK has not given details of the peace plan, but promises to outline “next steps” after this week’s cabinet meeting.
Starmer’s spokesman described the proposals as building on collaboration between the three countries and setting out a pathway to peace. However, Trump argued that Hamas’ leadership was making it difficult to negotiate a deal, saying the group had become “very difficult to deal with.”
The World Health Organization has warned of malnutrition in Gaza reaching alarming levels. Starmer described “images of starving children” as “revolting.”
