A surprising revelation has emerged from a recent GPU benchmarking experiment. TrashBench, a graphics card enthusiast, set out to push Nvidia’s budget-friendly RTX 5050 to its limits by overclocking it to extreme speeds. However, instead of the expected results, the humble RTX 5050 proved to be faster than the aging GTX 1080 Ti.
After weeks of fine-tuning and tweaking, TrashBench managed to overclock the RTX 5050 to an impressive 3.3 GHz core clock speed, a 28% increase over its stock speeds. This boost not only outperformed the GTX 1080 Ti but also resulted in an average gain of 17.55% in benchmark tests.
The comparison was conducted using TrashBench’s custom-built system featuring an RTX 5050, an AMD Ryzen 5 12600KF CPU, and 32GB DDR4 RAM. The results showed that the RTX 5050 not only outperformed the GTX 1080 Ti but also secured top six scores in 3DMark Time Spy, a benchmarking test for GPU performance.
This unexpected result has left many in the tech community stunned, as the GTX 1080 Ti was once considered the gold standard of Nvidia’s Pascal-era GPUs. TrashBench’s experiment highlights the potential of Nvidia’s budget-friendly RTX 5050, which has been gaining attention for its impressive performance and value for money.
The comparison between the two GPUs also raises questions about the stability and performance of modern GPUs. As chip makers continue to tout significant performance gains, some argue that these advancements come at the cost of increased instability and reduced overclocking potential.
