US President Donald Trump met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday at his golf resort in Scotland, just a day after securing a trade deal with the European Union. The two leaders spoke briefly to reporters about immigration issues in the UK and the ongoing hunger crisis in Gaza.
Trump stated that addressing hunger is his top priority, citing recent US aid of $60 million to struggling nations. Starmer concurred, describing the situation in Gaza as a “humanitarian crisis.” They plan to discuss this issue during their meeting.
The pair also touched on the war in Ukraine, with Trump expressing continued disappointment at Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions. The US may reduce its 50-day window for a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine.
Trump mentioned his efforts to prevent wars between India and Pakistan, as well as tensions between Serbia and Kosovo. He claimed that without him, the world would face six major conflicts.
The UK became the first country to announce a trade deal with the US, securing reduced car export tariffs from 27.5% to 10%. The aerospace sector saw removal of 10% tariffs on goods like aircraft parts, helping companies like Rolls Royce remain competitive.
