A shooting at a popular nightspot in the Turks and Caicos Islands has left three young men dead and 10 others injured, making it the territory’s first mass shooting in recent history. Authorities have identified four suspects but no one has been arrested.
Police Commissioner Fitz Bailey described the incident as “deeply disturbing.” Premier Charles Washington Misick called on the Haitian community to cooperate with police, citing concerns about gun smuggling into the islands.
The Turks and Caicos Islands have a significant population of Haitians, with around 10,900 living in the territory. The shooting comes amid efforts to crack down on illegal immigration, which affects many members of this community.
Acting Gov. Anya Williams said the hospital was placed on lockdown to protect injured patients, with at least two requiring further treatment overseas.
