The Cincinnati Reds are set to break Major League Baseball’s single-game regular-season attendance record on Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway. Over 85,000 tickets have been sold for the game against the Atlanta Braves, eclipsing the previous paid attendance record of 84,587 set in 1954.
The event will feature a ceremonial first pitch by Hall of Famers Johnny Bench and Chipper Jones, as well as musical performances by Tim McGraw, Pitbull, and Jake Owen. Workers are putting the finishing touches on the field at Bristol Motor Speedway, with the largest crowd to date expected for the baseball game.
Bristol has previously hosted large crowds for its college football games, including 156,990 for a 2016 event. The stadium is being transformed into a ballpark, with grandstand seating and NASCAR-inspired uniforms for both teams. The MLB Speedway Classic will be included in the “MLB The Show 25” video game after an update scheduled for Tuesday.
