Google is working on a solution to fix a longstanding issue with its Pixel devices’ home page. The company wants to improve the icon theme matching feature, which currently only works if app developers provide monochromatic versions of their icons. This can lead to a jumbled look if multiple apps have different colors.
Google’s AI-powered approach aims to address this problem. In the latest Android Canary build, new code strings suggest that users will have four options to customize icon themes: Themed Icons (as we know it), an “AI Icon” feature, and two unexplained options. The “Create” option might allow users to replace icons entirely.
While some may see this as a minor improvement, AI’s role in creating custom icons can help fill gaps where developers haven’t kept up with the trend. However, issues surrounding copyright and icon manipulation are yet to be resolved.
The new feature is expected to use Google Tensor G4 processors and display on LTPO OLED screens, which offer 1-120Hz refresh rates and a 6.3-inch resolution of 1280 x 2856 pixels.
