Google Fixes Smart Home Issues with Incoming Update

Google has confirmed that a fix is rolling out for the recent issues affecting its smart home devices, including users unable to control their smart lights using the Google Assistant.

Reports of the problem emerged last week, with many users frustrated by the assistant’s failure to understand basic commands and losing connections to connected devices. Despite an acknowledgment from a Google executive promising a better experience, the situation continues to worsen.

Users are now reporting that they cannot use Google Assistant to control their smart lights, either due to it failing to understand the command or doing nothing. The issue has persisted despite the official acknowledgment of the problem and promises to resolve it soon.

As a temporary workaround, users can reconnect their affected devices using the Google Home app. This process does not require resetting or repairing the devices but instead involves adding them back through the Works with Google section.

This is not the first time Google Home users have faced issues controlling smart lights using voice commands. A similar problem was resolved within days last month, but some users are now reporting other issues, such as being unable to set alarms using voice commands.

Google has upgraded its Assistant technology, Gemini, which seems to offer a better voice control experience on Android devices and is now rolling out to Wear OS. However, frustrated Google Home users will have to wait at least until fall to experience the benefits of this upgrade for their smart home devices.
