Google Expands AI Weather Forecasts to Pixel 8 and 8a Devices

Google’s latest update to the Pixel Weather app has brought a welcome change to its design, with improved date formatting. However, this update also introduced a new feature that may be considered cluttered by some users – the addition of a Save button.

One of the standout features of the Pixel Weather app is its AI-powered weather reports, which provide concise and easy-to-understand forecasts for your area. These summaries offer a quick overview of the day’s weather and can even suggest whether you’ll need an umbrella. Google made these AI-generated summaries exclusive to the Pixel 9 series until now.

In a significant expansion, Pixel 8 and 8a users are starting to receive access to these AI forecasts, thanks to the on-device Gemini Nano integration added to their devices in 2024. Users who have enabled Gemini Nano on their Pixel 8 phones can see AI-generated summaries appear in the app.

While there is no official confirmation from Google yet, it seems that the company is bringing this feature back to older devices as a way of enhancing their user experience. This update may also pave the way for future updates to even earlier Pixel models.
