Will Smith, the writer and executive producer of the hit spy series Slow Horses, has announced he is departing after Season 5. The upcoming season will premiere this fall on Apple TV+, marking a significant change for the show.
Slow Horses follows a group of MI5 rejects, known as “slow horses,” who work from a forgotten outpost called Slough House. Led by Gary Oldman’s character Jackson Lamb, they often confound their superiors and prove effective in their missions.
Smith has been praised for his work on the series, including nominations for Emmy awards. However, he stated that he is leaving to ensure the show continues to deliver its best quality. He wants to hand over the reins to new team members, Gaby Chiappe and Ben Vanstone, who will take over Season 6 and beyond.
The decision comes after a five-year run with the series, during which Smith has helped shape the show’s tone and adaptation of Mick Herron’s novels. His departure marks an exciting change for Slow Horses, as the new team brings fresh energy to the show. The series already has seven seasons planned, and fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Season 5 premiere on Apple TV+.
