American swimming star Katie Ledecky won her sixth consecutive 1,500-meter freestyle world title in Singapore on Tuesday. The dominant performance marked her 22nd gold medal at the World Aquatics Championships and took her overall tally to 28 medals.
Ledecky’s time of 15:26.44 was six seconds outside her best-ever record set in 2018. Italy’s Simona Quadarella finished second in 15:31.79, while Australia’s Lani Pallister took third with a time of 15:41.18.
In her post-race interview, Ledecky attributed her success to her ability to build from a fast start and maintaining a comfortable pace throughout the race. She was also happy with her performance, stating that she was “happy with the time and happy with the swim.”
Ledecky has dominated the 1,500m freestyle event at the World Championships since her debut in 2013, except for missing two events due to illness. Despite being pushed hard by Pallister in the first half of the race, Ledecky remained unbeaten in the event.
The 28-year-old now holds a record 42 medals across the Olympics and World Championships, including 31 golds.
