Patriots Training Camp: Physicality Emerges on Day 5

The New England Patriots kicked off their fifth day of training camp, marking a turning point with the introduction of pads. The 90-minute practice featured an emphasis on the running game, which saw Rhamondre Stevenson, Antonio Gibson, TreVeyon Henderson, and Terrell Jennings make significant gains.

Offensive linemen Will Campbell and Cole Strange displayed a strong rapport, creating openings for Stevenson to gain yards. Meanwhile, Brock Lampe’s lead blocks created space inside, allowing him to contribute effectively as a fullback. The passing game, led by Drake Maye, saw limited opportunities but showcased the quarterback’s ability to step up in the pocket.

Despite the emphasis on the run, several players faced challenges, including Christian Gonzalez’s injury and sloppy plays from Maye and Henderson. However, the field goal unit performed well, with Parker Romo making all six attempts.

Defensive linemen continued to impress, particularly K’Lavon Chaisson, who consistently beat tackles off the snap. Cornerbacks showed promise, with Marcus Jones and Kyle Dugger competing effectively in cover drills.

The Patriots’ coaching staff remained focused on technique, emphasizing the importance of good footwork, hands, and eyes for players to excel on the field. With a 10:15 a.m. practice scheduled for Tuesday, fans can look forward to continuing coverage from Day 5.
