The Tennessee Titans are now one week into training camp, with five open practices under their belt. Here are six things that have stood out during the first week of camp.
Cam Ward, the team’s first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, has been a mixed bag so far. He’s shown promise, making several great throws and connecting with Calvin Ridley on several occasions, but also thrown four interceptions. The rookie quarterback is still finding his footing, and it’s too early to panic or celebrate.
Ward has developed chemistry with Ridley, who invited him into his home before the season and now seems to be a perfect match. However, there’s room for improvement, as seen on Wednesday when Ward overthrew Ridley on a deep ball.
On the defensive side, the Titans have made several big plays. Eight defenders have already intercepted passes, including Cody Barton, who has had two picks in open practice and also deflected one that went to Roger McCreary.
Defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons has been a force to be reckoned with, showing up in great shape and making his presence known from the start of camp. He’s forced his way into the backfield on running and passing plays and is letting opposing players know about it.
The Titans’ offensive line has looked promising in some run periods, particularly with Tyjae Spears sprinting through holes with ease. Spears seems poised to be a dynamic performer this season.
Finally, kicker Joey Slye has been accurate so far, making 20-of-21 field goals in the first week of camp. He’s shown off a strong leg and could provide more scoring chances for the Titans from long distance this fall.
