Microsoft to End Windows 10 Security Updates in October 2026

Microsoft is ending support for new security updates for Windows 10 PCs on October 14, 2025. However, users can extend their system’s life with Extended Security Updates (ESUs) until October 2026. To get ESUs, users must enroll their PCs in the program.

To enroll, a user needs:

– A valid Windows 10 license
– An administrator account
– A Microsoft account
– The PC must not be in kiosk mode or joined to an Active Directory domain

Microsoft charges $30 for these updates. Users can avoid this fee by using free alternatives. Separate programs are available for businesses, schools, and large organizations.

Note: Windows 10 users have until October 2026 to take advantage of ESUs before new security updates are no longer available.
