France to Deport Gaza Student Accused of Antisemitic Posts

The French government has announced that it will deport a Gaza student accused of reposting antisemitic content on her social media, effectively halting all evacuations from the territory. Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said the student must leave the country, citing “antisemitic and unacceptable” posts. The decision comes amid outrage over the student’s alleged comments, which have been described as “Hamas propaganda” by Interior Minister.

The university where the student is enrolled, Sciences Po Lille, has also expelled her due to the content being in direct contradiction with its values. The college announced it had consulted with government agencies before making the decision. France has evacuated hundreds of people from Gaza since October 2023, but the foreign ministry has yet to confirm if these evacuations will continue.

The French government’s stance on the student’s posts is under scrutiny, as human rights experts have condemned the decision as an attack on free speech and international students’ rights. The case has sparked a heated debate in France, with several senior ministers echoing outrage over the student’s alleged comments.
