Nintendo’s financial year has started on a high note, thanks to the strong sales of its new Switch 2 console. The console has sold over 5.82 million units since its launch in June, more than double the sales of its predecessor, the original Switch, which sold 2.7 million units in its first month.
The console’s success has driven a significant surge in quarterly revenue, with Nintendo reporting a 132% increase to ¥572.3 billion (around $3.8 billion) between April-June. This growth is driven by strong demand for the Switch 2, which has exceeded supply in many countries.
Despite a recent announcement from the US government that will impose tariffs on goods from Vietnam, where the Switch 2 consoles are produced, Nintendo remains confident in its sales forecast. The company says it expects to sell 15 million Switch 2 consoles by the end of its 2026 financial year.
The Switch 2 has become the fastest-selling game console of all time, with over 153 million units sold for the original Switch console, bringing it closer to dethroning the DS as Nintendo’s most successful console.
