Police have raided President Yoon Suk Yeol’s presidential office in Seoul. The raids come after a failed attempt to impose martial law last week, when the president was not present. Investigators are seeking records from cabinet meetings related to the declaration.
Other agencies involved in the raid include the National Police Agency and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. Former Defence Minister Kim Yong-hyun attempted suicide while in custody on Tuesday but is now reported to be in good health.
The president and his allies face insurrection charges, with some slapped with a travel ban. Kim had previously proposed martial law to the president before being arrested on Tuesday. North Korea’s media has responded to the declaration by calling it “insane” and likening Yoon to a “fascist dictator”.
