Bristol Motor Speedway will host a unique event on August 2 as Major League Baseball’s (MLB) first-ever game in Tennessee takes center stage. The Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds will face off in the MLB Speedway Classic, a matchup where baseball meets motorsports.
The event is part of Bristol’s efforts to expand its non-racing resume, having previously hosted a National Football League exhibition and a “Battle at Bristol” between the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech. This weekend’s event has already surpassed previous attendance records, with over 85,000 tickets sold.
Demolition work for the baseball infield began in May, with crews working to transform the track into a diamond stadium. The final product features a 400-foot-wide base and 330-400 feet deep run-downs, making it a unique blend of sports. Baseball players have taken notice, incorporating racing-inspired elements into their gear.
For NASCAR drivers, this event presents an opportunity to showcase Bristol’s capabilities beyond racing. “It’s wild to see baseball fans here,” said Chase Briscoe of Joe Gibbs Racing. “I hope they come back for a race.” The MLB Speedway Classic is another chapter in Bristol’s history, cementing its reputation as one of the world’s premier spectator facilities.
