NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center has made significant progress in cryogenic propellant management in orbit. The research, once considered forbidden due to its potential impact on large rockets like the Space Launch System (SLS), is now underway. This breakthrough comes as Richard Shelby steps down from his leadership role.
Meanwhile, a privately developed Australian rocket experienced technical difficulties during its maiden test flight. The Eris rocket, launched from northeastern Australia’s coastline, suffered engine failures and lost power, resulting in a failed attempt to reach orbit. Fortunately, there were no injuries or adverse environmental impacts reported.
Gilmour Space, the company behind the Eris rocket, downplayed expectations for the launch, stating that 14 seconds of flight time was considered a success. The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges associated with developing new rockets and technologies in space exploration.
