Jesse Eisenberg will not reprise his role as Mark Zuckerberg in the upcoming The Social Network 2. According to a report from Jeff Sneider, Eisenberg’s decision is due to director David Fincher’s non-involvement with the sequel.
Fincher directed the original film and won an Academy Award for its portrayal of Facebook’s early days. However, he will not be directing the sequel. Eisenberg reportedly didn’t want his career defined by playing Zuckerberg after gaining widespread recognition from the role.
The Social Network 2 is expected to explore the negative effects of social media on young people, misinformation, and the January 6, 2021 coup attempt. Although casting has not been confirmed, Jeremy Strong, Jeremy Allen White, and Mikey Madison are among those considered for key roles.
