US Track Star Sha’Carri Richardson Arrested for Domestic Violence

Sha’Carri Richardson, the reigning 100m world champion, was arrested last weekend on a domestic violence charge after allegedly assaulting her boyfriend Christian Coleman at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The 25-year-old American sprinter has been booked into a correctional facility and later released.

According to police reports, Richardson grabbed Coleman’s backpack and yanked it away from him before shoving him into a wall. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, with the officer reviewing camera footage that showed the altercation.

US Track and Field officials have declined to comment on the matter, citing only a statement saying they are “aware of the reports.” Richardson has an automatic bye to this year’s world championships in Tokyo as the defending champion.

Richardson has faced disciplinary action before, including missing the 2021 U.S. Olympic trials due to a positive marijuana test. She won gold with the US relay team at the 2016 Olympics and silver in the 100m event last summer.
