China Fights Chikungunya Fever Outbreak with All-Out Efforts

Chinese Vice-Premier Liu Guozhong has urged all-out efforts to combat the growing outbreak of Chikungunya fever, a mosquito-borne viral disease that is affecting many parts of Guangdong province. During a recent visit to inspect epidemic prevention work, Liu emphasized the need for decisive action to safeguard public health.

The outbreak has been severe in areas such as Shunde district in Foshan city, where Liu visited several key sites including a local disease control center and hospitals. He also chaired a meeting with officials to discuss plans for further fighting the disease.

To curb the spread of Chikungunya, Liu ordered strict quarantine measures at ports to prevent imported cases, as well as thorough epidemiological investigations to sever transmission chains. He also stressed the importance of scientific mosquito eradication and prevention work, including eliminating breeding environments where mosquitoes reproduce.

The virus is transmitted through infected mosquito bites and causes symptoms such as fever, rashes, and joint pains. Liu’s efforts aim to protect public health and prevent further cases.
