The Minnesota Lynx have made a surprise move to bolster their defense by acquiring veteran guard DiJonai Carrington from the Dallas Wings. In exchange, the Lynx will send forward Diamond Miller, guard Karlie Samuelson, and a 2027 second-round pick.
Carrington, 27, is considered one of the top defensive guards in the WNBA due to her length and tenacity. She averages 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game this season, earning her a spot on the league’s all-defensive first team last year.
The Lynx have high hopes for Carrington’s addition, which also brings postseason experience to their roster. She appeared in the 2022 WNBA Finals with the Connecticut Sun and made two consecutive semifinal appearances in 2023 and ’24.
In contrast, Miller, who was the second overall pick in 2023, has struggled with injuries this season, playing limited games due to a lack of action. Samuelson, acquired by the Lynx in April, also played in only 16 games before suffering a foot injury.
