Andrew Tulloch, an Australian computer scientist, has made headlines after rejecting a $1.5 billion job offer from Meta. The 11-year veteran of the company had worked on machine learning before joining OpenAI and later moved to Thinking Machines Lab, the AI startup valued at $12 billion that is being poached by Mark Zuckerberg.
Tulloch, who graduated from the prestigious University of Cambridge, has a background in strategy with Goldman Sachs and expertise in machine learning. He co-founded Thinking Machines Lab, which aims to take AI beyond chatbots. Despite the offer, Tulloch chose to remain at TML, sparking curiosity among those familiar with the matter.
A screenshot of Tulloch’s LinkedIn profile has gone viral on social media, showcasing his career trajectory from Goldman Sachs to Meta and OpenAI before joining TML. The offer was reportedly contingent upon bonuses and stock performance, but a Meta spokesman disputed this, calling it “inaccurate and ridiculous.”
