The Indianapolis Colts lost running back Salvon Ahmed to a serious injury during practice, as safety Trey Washington was penalized for a hip-drop tackle that left Ahmed clutching his leg in pain.
The NFL has banned the hip-drop tackle from games due to its high risk of causing injuries. Despite this, Washington’s technique led to Ahmed’s significant injury. Colts head coach Shane Steichen described the incident as an “unfortunate” mistake and emphasized that Washington did not intend to hurt Ahmed.
Ahmed, who spent last season on the practice squad, is now in danger of missing the entire season after suffering a serious injury. Washington, also competing for a roster spot, was initially supposed to tackle Ahmed during live practice but made a critical error.
