Brad Pitt’s racing drama, F1, has taken the top spot for his highest-grossing movie worldwide, surpassing World War Z. According to latest box office numbers, F1 has reached a global total of $545.6 million.
The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Apple Original Films via Warner Bros, continues to hold strong in international markets, adding $17.2 million from 78 offshore markets this weekend. This brings the overseas cume to $372.3 million.
F1’s success is attributed to its mega-strong holds, increasing an incredible 36% in the sixth frame in various markets. The film’s production budget was reportedly around $200 million, making it a relatively cheap streaming asset for Apple.
Other notable releases include Paramount’s The Naked Gun, which debuted to $11.5 million from 46 early opening markets, and Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s The Bad Guys 2, expanding to 58 overseas markets this weekend with an added $16.3 million.
While some have expressed skepticism about the film’s financial performance, industry experts believe F1 will continue to make money for several months, given its lack of strong competition in the market. With a potential final tally of over $600 million, it is expected to be a passable success despite not being profitable in cinemas.
